 Abalone: the shell that connects us to the mystical energies of the sea

Who hasn't felt relaxed just remembering the smell or sound of the sea? Although there are those who prefer fresh water bodies, the ocean is a natural asset that has, by far, the most loyal admirers all over the world. You may not be a fan of beaches or be afraid of the unknown salty depths, but you have certainly felt some kind of inexplicable connection with the sea.

Whether it is the grandeur, the mysteries, the beauty or the overwhelming biological diversity of this body of water, at some point in time we have all been attracted to this body of salt water. The sea has aroused the curiosity and interest of human beings from the oldest and most traditional peoples, who created various myths and tales to try to explain this natural phenomenon, to thescientists of the most advanced contemporary technologies, who research it ceaselessly.

Beyond the totalized idea of the sea (when we consider its extension as a whole), we can turn our attention to smaller creatures and natural elements belonging to the ocean, which are already quite a subject. Among the most diverse corals and reefs of this aquatic universe, there is the abalone, a physical and living body of this medium, which is very much linked to mystical and spiritual thinking and whichholds many meanings within its exuberant beauty. Understand!

What is abalone?

Although often mistakenly defined as "rock", the abalone is a flattened shell mollusk with a round or oval shape, which has a sequence of pores ranging from 2 to 9 holes distributed along its outer edge. Due to this peculiar shape, abalones are nicknamed "ears of the sea".

On the outside of the shell, the coloration varies according to its habitat, with brown and green shades being the most common. The inside is covered with the famous mother-of-pearl, which resembles a real aurora borealis, with varying shades of blue, green, lilac and pink, constituting a natural "tie-dye" that will blow anyone's mind. Some types of abalone may presentmore earthy and darker hues.

What is abalone used for?

Precisely because they contain this stupendous inner layer of iridescent mother-of-pearl, humans have long been engaged in pulling abalone mollusks out of the sea to turn them into merchandise, both for home decoration purposes and to make highly profitable jewelry and other artifacts.

In addition, the shell is the subject of gastronomic interests, as it is commonly served fresh and dried in Cantonese cuisine and is traditionally eaten during the Chinese New Year. The habit of consuming abalone came from an indigenous heritage of the peoples of North America. People of various tribes of that region sought out abalone to eat its meat and took advantage of the shells themselves by making them intotools and ornaments.

It has been discovered, however, that the functionality of abalone goes far beyond its concrete uses. Being 3,000 times stronger than a single crystal of calcium carbonate, which is the mineral from which it is made, the abalone shell promotes beauty, purifies energies, and greatly increases the inner light of those who relate to it, connecting us to a transcendental atmosphere.

In the physical body, this mollusk protects and strengthens muscle tissue, which includes all the organs in our body. It also aids digestion, stimulates the glands, and favors the absorption of proteins. In the emotional field, abalone eases anxiety, stress, and feelings of anger and irritation.

What are the spiritual and mystical properties of abalone?

  • It enhances the brightness and inner light;
  • It elevates spirituality;
  • Purifies the personal energy field (aura);
  • Awakens sacred feminine energies;
  • It creates an energetic connection with the spiritual forces of the seas;
  • It increases spiritual magnetism;
  • Protects against negative energies;
  • It provides a process of spiritual purification.

Therapeutic effects of abalone

For the emotional: the abalone shell, in general, helps to keep calm and ward off illnesses, such as anxiety and stress. It acts as a purifying crystal, soothing negative feelings and reducing symptoms of mental disorders, which can tranquilize and even prevent pathologies, such as depression.

For the spiritual: When used on the body, abalone creates a spiritual energy field that protects and guides the individual. In addition, it uplifts thoughts and feelings and enhances the inner light, emanating a personal glow that comes out from within.

For the physique: it promotes beauty, protects and strengthens the muscles. Besides helping in internal processes of the body, such as digestion (because abalone facilitates the process of protein assimilation), the shell also provides a sense of well-being.

How to clean and energize the abalone?

Despite being endangered, as you will understand below, the abalone shell can still be found, and if you have one on hand, it is of utmost importance that you know how to treat it with proper care. After all, it is necessary to understand that the abalone was taken from its habitat and that, without the necessary caution, it can lose all its functionality and mystical characteristics.

To balance the spiritual forces of the abalone, it is recommended that you also leave it in a moon bath for about 4 hours. Also, whenever possible, take it to the sea, letting its spiritual and therapeutic energies be potentiated andrecharge themselves in their home environment.

Where to find abalone?

Whether for its wonderful aesthetics, taste, or even the spiritual and energetic properties already mentioned, the abalone shell is the target of much hunting and persecution around the world, which has led to a rapid decline in its populations. Today, the species is threatened with extinction.

Because of the cultural and historical significance that this mollusk has for indigenous peoples in the Americas, Africa, and Australia, the abalone has recently received government protection and now more than 95 percent of its organisms come from aquaculture.

The first ban on fishing this mollusk was in 1993, and the strict regulations around hunting resulted in tons of abalones being stolen and sold illegally. A single red abalone can be sold in North America for a hundred dollars, and in South Africa some can be sold for hundreds of dollars a kilo.

With this, it is evident that putting human wills above nature itself is devastating and that abalones, like any other species of living being for which we have zeal and concern, deserve to reproduce and recover in peace, safe from our interests that, next to the magnitude and preciousness of the ocean, are ordinary.

Taking care of ourselves and our spirituality is important, but we should never putthat above the life of other organisms of our rich Earth! Have fun!
