The biggest settlement in the lake region

Chacchoben is an Mayan archeological settlement located close to the town of Chacchoben, approximately 70 km from Chetumal. The current populace of the zone speak the Mayan language fluently and confirm that the name means “ Colored Corn” but they do not know what the original name was.

The Mayan city of Chacchoben was the largest settlement in the region of the lakes and occupies approximately 70 hectares on which structures of different size among which the Great Base, The Tracks and Group II stand out, which include the tallest building in the settlement. The site is surrounded  trees of a wide array of species and it rich in flora and fauna.
