The sculpture corridor of “Chactemal” was created as a result of the Second international Sculpture Meeting which took place at the end of 2003 and can be found on the Bays boulevard and important avenues in Chetumal.
This space has a little more than 20 sculptures donated by artists specialized in plastics from around the world and who’s purpose is to sensitise the population, create an interactive space with the art and dignify the city with works that express themselves. They mostly allude to the natural beauty of the state or the traditions found in the Mayan culture.
Among these works you can find the following: “Personaje” by Mexican sculptor Jose Luis Cuevas, “ Libertad, “ Caballo Negro” and “ Nudo Coralino”. Also, “Doble Estela Solar”, “Prisma”, “Culebras” and “Aire”, by different national and international artists. Traversing this corridor is an aesthetic experience, the sculptures are accompanied by a magnificent view of the sea. The Corridor has sculptures made by plastic artists from Brazil, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Paraguay, United States, Egypt, Japan and Mexico among which can be found Jose Luis Cuevas, Vicente Rojo and Sebastian.
