Paradise on the riverside
The Palmar water resort has been open to the public for over 35 years, it is one of the most visited natural attractions of the Rio Hondo. This ecotouristic center has been put together by a cooperative that charges a 10 peso per person cuota and 10 pesos for parking, they also charge 60 pesos for the use of the chairs and palapas, Bottled sodas and food are also sold at an accesible price.
Palmar is 32 kilometers from the city of Chetumal. Palmar is visited mainly by domestic tourism, however we also receive visitors from out of state, however it remains a beautiful secret get away for those who find it.
How to arrive
By car: In order to arrive at “El Palmar” water park on the Hondo River you must leave Chetumal taking the 186 highway Chetumal-Villahermosa. Once you reach the bridge with the intersection, take the Escarcega/ Campeche road and follow it for approximately 25 km until you reach the town of Ucum. From Ucum you must take the turn off to the left that takes you to the town of Sacxan and follow it for 7.5km until you reach Palmar.
Public transportation: Behind the Museum of Mayan Culture in Chetumal, in front of the ADO bus station there are vans that go to Alvaro Obregon or the Union. This last town is located at the end of Rio Hondo Riviera, which is why it is an ideal mode of transportation. The cost is approximately $40.00 MXN per person. Dont forget to ask the driver about your stop before boarding. Departures throughout the day begin at 5 am and end at around 8pm.
