With a huge potential and beauty, Steam “El Chorro” is 500 meters from the town Juan Sarabia and 22 kilometers from the city of Chetumal. This place is a small stream with beautiful natural attractions, since it is a natural reservoir of water that flows underground and runs off down the trees in small creeks.
The place has a palapa that works as a restaurant with public restrooms, and a parking lot, and also, the site is covered by great natural vegetation of the region, mainly palm trees, giving it a unique touch of peace and tranquility.
Currently, the administration of this place is determined to rescue the destination, so, through paid jobs given to the villagers, they are rebuilding infrastructure that was damaged by the passage of time. Because of all these reasons and more, “El chorro” is definitely a must stop in your route through the rio hondo riverside.
How to arrive
By Car: In order to arrive at Juan Sarabia you must leave Chetumal by the 186 highway going Chetumal-Villahermosa. Upon arriving at the bridges intersection take the Escarcega/Campeche exit and follow it for about 5 km until arriving at the fork in the road at which you should take the road on the left for about 1.5 km upon which you will find this community and its water parl.
Public Transportation: Behind the Museum of Mayan Culture in Chetumal, in front of the ADO bus station there are vans that go to Alvaro Obregon or La Union. This last being the last town closest to the the end of the riviera of Rio Hondo which makes it ideal for reaching any destinations in the vicinity. The cost is approximately $40.00 MXN per person. Do not forget to inquire with the driver about your stop before boarding.There are departures throughout the day starting at 5 am and ending at 8 pm.
