Superhero Syndrome

 Superhero Syndrome

Tom Cross

Have you heard of it? I particularly love superhero movies and their reflections. "Black Panther" (the subject of my camisa☺️) is one of my favorites.

The Superhero Syndrome is when a person feels responsible for solving all the problems around him to avoid suffering in the world or in himself, that is, it goes beyond the sense of help. It is the will to save others by taking on the problems and bringing the responsibilities to himself, in the obligation to be a noble "hero", "the one who bears everything, everythingIt also refers to an unbridled quest to always win, always be right, and have the best choices, opinions and/or strategies.

1️⃣ You need to realize that you can help another within your limits, respecting his moment and, MAINLY, letting the other develop, that is, allowing him to be able to assume his responsibilities and to account for the choices he makes in life.

2️⃣ You can only take responsibility for your own well-being and your own happiness. Understand that you don't have control over everything, much less over the other. This false feeling tends to generate guilt and frustration.

3️⃣ Observe whether you are seeking to be useful. This need indicates some unbalanced process within you. When something is missing, the tendency is to want to "fill it up" with what is outside. Not wanting to look at your emotions generates a projection onto the feelings and needs of others.

4️⃣ There is a demand to win all the time and show how strong you are? This posture can be risky and make you cross the thin line between ethics and morals, between your space and the other's. When you don't get what you want, you can go into a crisis of depression.

5️⃣ This impulse to impress and to be applauded, praised, and recognized all the time indicates an emptiness in life and, little by little, a distancing from who you really are, from your essence, in order to fit into this ideal pattern established by yourself. This process requires a lot of awareness in order not to plunge into a game of appearances.

How about being mere mortals and going on with our peace of mind and in this quest for self-knowledge, close to who is really worth it and to everything that actually makes sense to us?

Note 1: Immortality requires study, discipline, self-knowledge, self-respect, self-care and self-love. Real immortality is our essence, it's what we take with us from our experiences, it's everything we've learned and that will be kept inside us no matter where we are and/or with whom we live. May we be that kind of hero!

Note 2: Superheroes in movies often fail to save the ones they love most, and in some cases die at the end, "contradicting" their immortality.

Be just you. Winning your internal battles is already a process that requires hard work, discipline, and willpower. You will encounter obstacles and stumble over rocks along the way... All this will serve you as a learning process to improve as a human being and will enhance your survival instinct, your love for life, and your will to evolve.
