 Morning Prayers: Start the day with lots of light and energy!

Tom Cross

Some people consider the morning to be the most important part of the day. After all, if waking up is so important, why not connect to the divine early in the morning? Just like exercising, reading a book, sunbathing or enjoying a delicious breakfast, waking up to praycan be energizing for the rest of the day.

Every morning practice should be aimed at attracting good energy for the day ahead. And, whatever your beliefs, you can find a way to exercise this spiritual connection. How about, then, knowing some prayers and psalms to start the day with serenity? Check them out below!

Morning Prayers

There is no belief that is more powerful than another. The strength lies in being connected to what makes sense to you. So whether it is spiritualist, Buddhist, Christian, or any other kind of prayer, practice them and meditate on them with faith. This is what will attract good energy into your day.

Mahatma Gandhi said a very significant phrase: "Prayer saved my life. Without prayer, I would have remained a long time without faith". His words denote the power that a prayer possesses. When done from the heart, it is capable of elevating the soul and attracting good in a transforming way.

You can experience this feeling every morning with prayers like the ones below, and feed your soul too.

Morning Prayer for Every Day

There are those who consider the act as a spiritual conversation, a practical way to be closer to God. This makes it easy to talk to Him every day, in the morning, as in this simple prayer:

"My beloved God,

what better way to start the day

but conversing with the Lord?

Your presence is my nourishment

and I know you are listening to me,

as he always listens to my prayers.

Today, for one more day,

I am grateful for the blessings that the Lord has bestowed on me.

There are so many!

Just getting up every day with life and faith

I already have a lot to be thankful for!

And, by way of anticipatory gratitude,

I also ask you for protection for this day.

May it be blessed, enjoyable, and full of your love working wonders!

I believe it and I already receive it, Amen!"

Powerful Morning Prayer

Every new day deserves renewed faith. No matter what you believe, it is good for the soul to start the morning praying powerfully, so that your day is not just another day:

"Another blessed day is beginning

and I already lift my soul to the heavens,

for my faith in what I cannot see

is greater than the most palpable of obstacles.

Today I ask for light, harmony, and protection in my day.

May my walk be accompanied

by the power emanating from the spiritual world.

It won't be just another day.

May it be a special day

by the simple act of living it through faith!

So let it be done, amen."

Prayer for waking up in the morning

Buddhism is not only a source of immense wisdom, but also of powerful prayers for your mornings. These prayers can even be very poetic, touching the heart of the person who utters them, as well as successfully reaching the spiritual world. Learn about a beautiful example from Master Hsing Yün:

"O great and compassionate Buddha!

Today is the beginning of a new day!

It is said that 'dawn is the best time of day'.

On such an auspicious morning,

I reflect on what has passed:

I made mistakes,

But I never lost hope;

I was sad,

But I could rest my mind with serenity;

I was slandered,

But I understood that everything in life arises and disappears according to causes and conditions;

I shed tears,

But I believed that tomorrow will be a better day.

Today, under the blessings and protection

From your compassionate light, O Buddha,

I pray to you to give me courage

To face all the challenges of today;

I pray to you to give me patience

To accept all the defeats of today;

I pray to you to give me strength

To support all the work of today;

I pray to you to grant me wisdom

So that you can be grateful for all the causes and conditions today.

O great and compassionate Buddha!

Please help me reveal my wisdom;

Please help me to open my mind.

May I be able to appreciate the wonders of heaven and earth;

May I be able to give thanks for the warmth of humanity;

May I be able to get help from friends;

May I be able to understand the refined treasure of the Dharma.

O great and compassionate Buddha!

Help me to have a big heart:

That every day I can give, with joy;

That every day I can, with good will, create links with others;

May every day I practice love, compassion, rejoicing, and equanimity;

May every day I treat people with tolerance and generosity.

O great and compassionate Buddha!

Help me to be a warrior:

May I purify my thoughts;

That I can contribute to others, frequently;

May I refrain from evil;

May I only do good.

O great and compassionate Buddha!

Please bless me:

That I may have spiritual wisdom

And the mind of Buddha;

May I have prajna wisdom and compassion

And liberate beings from suffering.

O great and compassionate Buddha!

I recognize your presence in my mind.

I understand that I came to the human world to be happy;

I understand that I am part of society to contribute;

I know that I am cultivating the path of enlightenment to help others.

I vow, as of this moment,

To benefit all sentient beings

And awaken myself and others every day;

I take vows, as of today,

To bring benefits and happiness to the nation and the people,

And bring liberation to myself and others at all times.

O great and compassionate Buddha,

Please accept my sincere morning prayer!

O great and compassionate Buddha,

Please accept my heartfelt morning prayer!"

Caritas Prayer

There are prayers that are widely known among spiritualists, even within spiritualism, such as the famous Caritas Prayer, which comes from a psychography by medium Madame W. Krell. Each line of this prayer brings the necessary depth to start the day surrounded by light:

"God our Father,

who are all power and goodness,

give strength to those who go through the ordeal,

give light to those who seek the truth,

and put compassion and charity in the heart of man.

God, give the traveler the guiding star,

consolation to the afflicted,

the patient to rest.

Father, give repentance to the guilty,

to the spirit, the truth,

to the child the guide,

to the orphan, the father.

May your goodness extend over everything you have created.

Pity, Lord, for those who do not know You, and

hope for those who suffer.

May Your goodness enable the consoling spirits,

to spread peace, hope, and faith everywhere.

God, one ray, one spark of Your divine love can scorch the earth,

let us drink at the fountain of that fruitful and infinite goodness, and

all tears will dry,

all pains will be soothed.

One heart, one thought will rise to You,

as a cry of recognition and love.

Like Moses on the mountain,

we wait for You with open arms.

Oh! goodness, Oh! power, Oh! beauty, Oh! perfection,

we want to somehow merit Your mercy.

God, give us the strength in the progress of climbing up to You,

Give us pure charity,

Give us faith and reason,

Give us the simplicity that will make our souls

The mirror where Your Most Holy Image will one day reflect."

Psalms to read in the morning

Besides praying a prayer of faith, how about meditating on a psalm when you wake up? This simple reading can be inspiring for your day, and some psalms are ideal to be enjoyed in the morning:

Psalm 143:8

"Make me hear your lovingkindness in the morning, for in you I trust; make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul."

It is a true act of faith to dawn by putting your day in God's hands. When you wake up, you may have no idea what your day will actually look like, but you can believe that the higher power you believe in will guide your steps. Starting the day with trust in the divine may be the best way to strengthen yourself for the best experiences in the present.

Psalm 59:16

"But I will sing of thy strength; in the morning I will praise thy mercy with joy: for thou hast been my high tower, and my protection in the day of my trouble."

The grateful heart knows that gratitude is honorable at all times. You can give thanks for what you've already received or achieved, but you can also rise with gratitude simply for the divine existence in your life. Starting the day by exuding gratitude in this way can be energizing! After all, you already get out of bed ready to receive more grace than you've already received.

Psalms 92:1-2

"It is good to praise the LORD, and to sing praises to your name, O Most High;

To proclaim thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night."

Whoever has faith, whatever it may be, is happy to profess it to the world, because it is this faith that sustains and helps him in his earthly life. This psalm expresses such joy and is perfect to say first thing in the morning, when you get up, to communicate and connect with God.

Psalms 5:3-4

"In the morning you hear my voice, O Lord; in the morning I present my prayer to you, and I watch; for you are not a God who takes pleasure in iniquity, nor shall evil dwell with you."

Every new day brings different possibilities. You never know if it will bring more good or bad things. Therefore, by faith it is possible to dawn already asking for the protection of the divine. Through prayer or by reading the sacred scriptures, a direct connection with the spiritual world can be created and your paths can be opened.

There are different ways, therefore, to reach the divine and every morning you have a new chance to exercise your faith. So, why not make prayer your morning routine? That way you can wake up the best of your day. Enjoy!
